Music Therapy For Ventilated Patients - 1025 Words
So letââ¬â¢s talk about what has been studied already. China has performed multiple studies regarding music therapy for ventilated patients. In 2008, 137 ventilated patients were studied using a control group and a music listening group. They measured the outcomes using a Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Scale and vital signs. The vital signs used were blood pressure, heart rate, respiration rate, and oxygen saturation rate (Han et al., 2010). The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Adultsâ⠢ (STAI-AD) is the definitive instrument for measuring anxiety in adults. It clearly differentiates between the temporary condition of state anxiety and the more general and long-standing quality of trait anxiety. It helps professionals distinguish between a clientââ¬â¢s feelings of anxiety and depression. The inventoryââ¬â¢s simplicity makes it ideal for evaluating individuals with lower educational backgrounds. Adapted in more than forty languages, the STAI is the leading measure of personal anxiety worldwide. The STAI has forty questions with a range of four possible responses to each (Spielberger, 1977). The STAI has been adapted to allow a patient to answer yes or no questions. Ventilated and sedated patients are weaned off sedation for a short period of time to allow them to nod yes or no to these questions. The conclusion of this study determined that there were substantial benefits to using music in these mechanically ventilated patients that were hearing music from the headphones (Han etShow MoreRelatedUsing Music Therapy in the Treatment of Stress and Anxiety Essay1835 Words à |à 8 PagesTypically a normal response to situations that may be harmful, anxiety helps alert people of danger. Jean Corot Essays - Landscape Artists, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot
Jean Corot Jean Baptiste Camille Corot (1796-1875) Jean Baptiste Camille Corot was born in Paris on July 16, 1796. His mother managed a fashionable dress shop in Paris on the Rue du Bac and as a result he spent his first four years with a family near I'sleAdam, and until 1807 lived in a pension on the Rue Vaugirard. He was sent afterwards on scholarship to a school in Rouen, but did not adapt well to his new environment, and in 1812, his parents decided it would be best for him to return to Paris. When he finished his education in the village of Poissy, near Paris, his father insisted that he venture into business, and though he had expressed his desire to become an artist, Corot worked in several cloth merchant shops from 1815 until 1822. In 1822, his parents finally agreed to support him as an artist. Corot's first teacher was Achile Etna Michallon, a landscapist who had studied in Rome. The time Corot spent with Michallon was brief, since Michallon died later that same year. His influence, however, was immense, for it was he who suggested to Corot to carefully study out-of-doors. Corot afterwards studied with Jean Victor Bertin, who had also been Michallon's teacher. In 1817, Corot's father bought a country home at Ville d'Avray, and the countryside became a tremendous source of inspiration for the young artist. With the financial support of his family, Corot traveled to Italy in 1825: his simple, direct interpretations of what he saw caused a stir among his colleagues, who included Leopold Robert, Schnetz and d'Aligny. Corot left Rome in 1826 and traveled throughout much of Italy, returning to France in 1828, where he maintained a rigorous schedule throughout his life. During the winters he worked in his Paris studio, and devoted the summers to travel around France, recording his experiences with nature. Essentially ignored in the 1830s, Corot won important patrons and state commissions during the following ten years. In the late 1840s and early 1850s he exhibited regularly and was a member of the Jury in the Salon. His entries for the Salon generally included traditional subject matter such as Biblical and mythological themes, although a few landscape studies were also included. Following the death of his mother in 1851, Corot accepted an invitation from Constant Dutilleux to recover from his loss. He went to Arras and La Rochelle where he worked constantly. In 1851 and 1855 he traveled to the Limousin, Switzerland and to Holland, attaining considerable recognition during this period. One of his most important victories was in 1855 when he exhibited six paintings at the Universal Exhibition. The exhibition was an enormous success and earned Corot his place among the Barbizon painters. The public experienced an increased interest in his works during the late 1850s, and in 1858, thirtyeight of his works were sold at the Hotel Drouot for a considerable amount. Corot continued to exhibit at the Paris Salon until the end of his life. He died in the Ville d'Avray on February 22, 1875, at the age of seventynine. Corot, one of the foremost landscape artists of his time, is at last recognized as one of the greatest painters of nature and of the human form, and one of the most moving recorders of an artist's intimacy with his work. Corot had the extraordinary skill of being able to delineate not just the contours of objects, but the actual substance and luminosity. He was one of the first painters to love and to paint nature for its own sake, and his landscapes were surprisingly sensitive. He possessed a true quality of vision and expressed a genuine poetic style in his work. Corot's paintings combined poetry, light and color to reveal a clear and intense truth. He enlightened the realm of landscape painting with a new naturalism, and a definite romanticism. Corot was a revolutionary artist and a precursor to the art of the next generation.

Free Essays on The Idealistic Shepherd Vs. The Realistic Nymph
An Idealistic Shepherd vs. a Realistic Nymph As human beings we deal with life essentially two ways, either realistically or idealistically. Human tendency is to see things the way we want to see them, the way that is most appealing to us. Yet society teaches us to take a step back from what we see and look at it from a more objective place. Christopher Marlowe and Sir Walter Raleigh have captured these two phenomenon through the writings of their contrasting poems ââ¬Å"The Passionate Shepherd to His Loveâ⬠by Marlowe and ââ¬Å"The Nymphââ¬â¢s Reply to the Shepherdâ⬠by Raleigh. For the half of the world that is guided by their dreams and fantasies, the idealistic view of the Shepherd in Marloweââ¬â¢s poem is a perfect illustration. The more realistic answer from the Nymph in Raleighââ¬â¢s work satisfactorily characterizes the other half of the population that is more grounded and levelheaded. Though the structure of the two poems is virtually identical, they both illustrate that all humans regardless o f age, race, or creed fall into one of these two categories. The work by Marlowe is a prime example of the idealistic point of view that oneââ¬â¢s mind or body is what constitutes reality. The views of love and nature seen in the poem fit perfectly into this category. The subject of this poem is a young shepherd who is courting a young lady. He is trying to persuade her to be his love and come live with him in eternal bliss through many promises both tangible and otherwise. Through his many promises of beds of roses, hats of flowers, and slippers with gold buckles he repeatedly tries to convince her that living with him will, as he says, ââ¬Å"all the pleasures proveâ⬠(2). In the 3rd stanza the shepherdââ¬â¢s focus shifts from the pleasures nature can offer to what he is willing to provide her with. Business Ethics Assignment 8_08 Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Business Ethics 8_08 - Assignment Example It can reduce all the possible negative outcomes. Management of any organization can take right decision at right time by using this theory. Traditional utilitarianism has a couple of flavors. These are act utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism. Act utilitarianism states that right or wrong act depend on the situation or consequence. If outcome is good then it can be said that right strategy was applied for getting such positive outcome. Again in case of negative outcome, the opposite judgment can be observed. Rule utilitarianism is very simple by nature and it states that morality can be maintained by anyone by obeying moral rules. Now moral rules are basically those guidelines which provide maximum happiness to the maximum number of people (Taleff, 2009). The below mentioned considerations can be taken to determine what moral things have to do in any particular occasion. Utilitarianism is attractive to many persons as well as many organizations for different reasons. These reasons are as follows. From the organizational point of view this can be analyzed that different people have different interests and sometimes conflict arises from such different interests. It hampers the organizational activities. Utilitarianism helps to trade off between interests of different parties and reduce egoism in a particular group. It always focuses on the actual interest. Self interest is maintained by using this theory after fulfilling the group interest. This theory is attractive because people can judge the right and wrong decision by using utilitarianism. Second reason for the attractiveness of utilitarianism theory is reflection of morality. This theory is simple, powerful and rigorous system of morality. It establishes relationship between relatively correlated basic principles. This morality helps people to understand the wrong and right decision. This theory constructs a consistent and powerful philosophy and this philosophy can be applied in any situation

Regulating Manipulative Advertisements
Regulating Manipulative Advertisements Should subtle manipulation advertisements be regulated by the government? Introduction In view of the fact that mass media develop into mass media, companies have obviously utilized this ways of communications to allow a huge numeral of people to be acquainted with their products. There is not anything faulty with that, as it letââ¬â¢s pioneering concepts and ideas to be shared with others. On the other hand, as the years have evolved, the style of techniques and methods of advertising has been sophisticated, alluring and influential and even generating needs and consumerism where there has been nothing before, or turning lavishness into necessities. The major and commanding industry, the advertising industry, employs in misleading subliminal advertising which the majority us are ignorant of. By means of subliminal techniques, by detouring our unconscious mind, advertisers strike into the susceptibility adjacent to our unconscious mind, controlling and influencing us in a lot of ways. So main question arises does government should implement actions to regulate such subtle manipulation? The significance of advertising is progressively on the increase in contemporary society. While the social communication media themselves have huge influence all over the place, so does advertising, by means of media as its medium, is an invasive, commanding power shaping behavior and attitudes in todays world. Advertising can deceive its function as a resource of information by parody and by withholding pertinent data. Occasionally, too, the mediaââ¬â¢s information function can be undermined by pressure of advertisers upon programs or publications not to care for of questions that may prove awkward or not convenient. More often, despite the fact that, advertising is utilized not merely to inform other than to motivate and persuade ââ¬â to induce people to take action in definite ways: acquire definite products or services, support definite institutions, and similar to. [Ayanwale, A. B., Alimi, T. Ayanbimipe, M. A. (2005).]This is where particular subtle manipulation can take place. A great deal of advertising expressed at children in fact tries to make use of their suggestibility and credulity, in the expectation that they will place pressure on their parents to acquire merchandises of no actual gain to them.[ Moore, S.E. (2004), ] Advertising similar to this affronts in opposition to the rights and dignity of both parents and children; it encroaches upon the relationship of parent-child and seeks out to influence it to its individual base ends. As well, a few of the moderately little advertising directed specially to the elderly or culturally deprived seems designed to participate upon thei r frights consequently as to influence them to assign a few of their restricted resources to goods or services of questioning value. Advertisers make use of subliminal techniques to manipulate the 2nd and 3rd consciousness level. They mark the consumers desires and fears; manipulate them in ways on no account considered likely. Advertisers On the other hand, provide to the customer on the cognizant level a neutral, safe, logically engaging ad to appease the resistance of consumers to subliminal marketing. While glancing in the course of an ad, the normal consumer block-reads paras and hardly notices an ad that they have appear several times. This is prime time in subliminal response since the conscious mind is indifferent in the potentially unpleasant subliminal matter. [Brooke, Roger. ]There are soft drinks advertisements of naked women in floating ice cubes. Also there are subliminal messages being flickered in theaters informing people to eat popcorn and drink soda It is apparent that by pattering into the unconscious mind of consumers devoid of their understanding, the advertisers are appealing in misleading practices. It is as well an invasion of privacy. However, is this lawful? The reply is no. There are many legislation that forbid advertisers from utilizing subliminal messages in their advertisements. The Sec 5 of Federal Trade Commission Act forbids unjust or deceptive practices or acts in interstate commerce. They as well assert they have prime responsibility for ruling of advertising in US. Subliminal are intrinsically misleading since the customer does not distinguish them at a standard level of consciousness, and consequently is specified no choice whether to recognize or decline the message, as is the instance with normal advertising. ATF seizes that this kind of advertising method is forged and deceptive, and is forbidden by law. The Supreme Court For several years, apprehended that the wide government powers to regulate commerce incorporated the ââ¬Å"minor powerâ⬠to limit commercial communication1 the Court in Valentine (1942) case , held that the First Amendment does not safeguard ââ¬Å"solely commercial advertising.â⬠This outlook was functional when the courts uphold the prohibition of broadcast cigarettes advertising, on the other hand, in the mid-1970s this view begin to change as the Court nullify more than a few state rulings influencing advertising of products and services for instance pharmaceutical drugs and abortion providers The majority states as well have laws typically in the structure of deceptive practices statutes or consumer fraud that control advertising. State or local officers beneath these laws, can seek out injunctions in opposition to illicit ads and take lawful action to obtain repayment to consumers. A few laws offer for criminal penalties jail and fines but proceedings of criminal for false advertising are uncommon except if fraud is engaged.[ Bagwell, Kyle.] The difficulty in this legal battle is not legislation, sadly. It is the evidence. Since of its temperament, subliminal messages are almost unfeasible to establish. How do you establish to the judge in the Diet Coke there is a naked woman? How do you establish to the judges there are blaring faces concealed ice cubes? In this system of legal, you cannot establish. The proof would be deemed circumstantial. Advertisers would certainly rebuff any such activity and assert that if you gaze into something long adequate, you will position it. The majority substantial proof is yearly spending billions on research and subliminal advertising by these advertisers. Conclusion Advertisers have got a solid hold on our everyday lives. Half of their controlling influence can be trailed to their employ of subliminal advertising. They take benefit of the susceptibility in our subconscious brains. By means of the most recent computer technology, they have supreme resources to influence each picture to target a precise weakness in us. The needs of government regulations are essential in modern day as this subliminal advertising unconsciously attack our minds and intrude our privacy. References Ayanwale, A. B., Alimi, T. African Americans In The Post Essays -- essays research papers
Jefferson Davis stated in the pre-Civil War years to a Northern audience, “You say you are opposed to the expansion of slavery... Is the slave to be benefited by it? Not at all. It is not humanity that influences you in the position which you now occupy before the country,'; (Davis, The Irrepressible Conflict, 447). The Northerners had not freed the slaves for moral issues; the white majority did not have anything but its own economic prosperity on its mind. The African Americans gained their emancipation and new rights through the battling Northern and Southern factions of the United States, not because a majority of the country felt that slavery possessed a ‘moral urgency’. As the years passed and the whites began to reconcile, their economic goals rose to the forefront of their policy, while racism spread throughout the country and deepened in the South. Even with all of the good intentions and ideals expressed in the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments, blacks watche d as their freedom disintegrated through the late 19th Century as a result of the Supreme Court decisions that limited the implications of the new amendments. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã After the passage of these amendments, two of the three branches of government disconnected themselves with the issue of black civil rights. Following Grant’s unenthusiastic approach to protecting blacks in the South, the executive branch gradually made its position on the issue clear in 1876. (Zinn, 199) When Hayes beat Tilden in the presidential election by promising to end the Reconstruction in the South, it was evident that the White House would no longer support any calls for the protection of blacks. The compromise of 1877 brought Hayes to office, but “doomed the black man to a second class citizenship that was to be his lot for nearly a century afterward,'; (Davis, 160). The Radical Republican’s in Congress, who were responsible for freeing the blacks, were also responsible for letting their voices become silenced. This occurred as the other, more industrial, interests of the broad based party dominated their platform; leaving the blacks t o face the wrath of the Southerners. A final blow to the hopes for national protection of African American civil rights was dealt with The Force Bill of 1890. In this bill, the Senate objected to the idea of... ...e Radical Republicans had embarked on a costly Reconstruction plan and set up legislation meant to protect black civil rights, the blacks did not thrive. The Supreme Court successfully chipped away at any progress made by the Republicans. Rulings made in the later half of the 19th Century reduced the scope of the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments, and lead to the further subordination of the Black race by Southern State governments. Southern whites were allowed to set up a system that kept blacks as prisoners without any say on their future. The social practices, including segregation, curfews, violence and disfranchisement that the Blacks suffered left them anything but free as the 20th Century dawned. The amendments to the Constitution had been made, but the whites did not take the time after 1866 to abolish the prejudice that came with slavery, giving testimony to theory that the North engaged in the Civil War for economic, not moral reasons. The application of racism after the C ivil War was just as rampant, but much more subtle than before the Civil War, making it much more difficult to confront, and resulting in a century of unequal education, inferior treatment and segregation.
